The Carson City man who broke into his former employer’s restaurant and cleaned out the till was sentenced to 2-5 years in prison Monday.

Sean Andrew Maxwell was arrested Aug. 20, 2023, after he broke into Cook’d in Minden and stole $831 from the cash registers.

According to court documents, when the owners of the restaurant were asked if they suspected anyone, they implicated Maxwell. They said he had been employed with them and had returned to the building acting strange.

Blood was found at the scene and Maxwell had several cuts on his hands during his arrest.

Leading to his arrest, an off-duty deputy spotted Maxwell going into the Tractor Supply and knowing that authorities were looking for Maxwell in connection with the burglaries at Cook’d, called for backup. After Maxwell came out of the store, he was arrested and found with tire repair supplies and a flashlight stuffed down his pants that apparently came from the store. In addition, $429.95 was found on his person.

After he failed to appear for court in January, a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was then picked up in Washoe County for violating conditions of his release and was sentenced to 2-5 years in Carson City for burglary of a business. The petty theft crime is to run concurrent with the Carson City sentence.
